Jesseca Liu bids goodbye to MediaCorp
SINGAPORE: Malaysian-born actress Jesseca Liu is following in the footsteps of fellow MediaCorp Princess Dawn Yeoh and will be leaving media company to take a break, once her contract expires at the end of May, said entertainment magazine i-Weekly.
“I want to try different things, like going into business, travelling or going for short courses and have myself a very long holiday,” said Liu.
The starlet revealed that she had been toying with the thought since 2008 but only decided to do so last year, as she was concerned about her business in Malaysia.
“My contract was supposed to expire last November, but I extended it till May this year to accommodate the production delays in an upcoming drama serial I am involved in, ‘New Beginnings’.”
“I don’t really like to be tied down so I hope I can do things I want to do. Furthermore, it’s hard to make decisions about my business in Malaysia from here [Singapore],” she said.
The 31-year-old actress added that she had been happy during her six years in the entertainment industry and actually felt a little trepidation and insecurity after making up her mind to go.
“If there are opportunities in the future, I would still like to act,” said Liu.
Ironically, “New Beginnings” will be Liu’s final project with MediaCorp, in which she plays a young, optimistic bridal gown designer from Taiwan.
Her manager said that she will not be involved in further projects due to time constraints.
Liu had also recently been nominated for the Star Awards Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes Award. She had won the award thrice in 2006, 2007 and 2009. Liu was also named Most Popular Newcomer in 2005.
With Liu due to leave, and the departure of both Fiona Xie and Dawn Yeoh last year, only four of MediaCorp’s ‘Seven Princesses’ remain.
