xinmsn : Will it soon be the end of the Seven Princesses of MediaCorp?
And then there were four. Now that Jesseca Liu has announced her departure from MediaCorp, the original Seven Princesses of MediaCorp have dwindled down to a quartet. The burning question is: will the disintegration continue?
Remember the hubbub created in 2006 when a local magazine crowned a septet of then up-and-coming nubile actresses in vein of the Magnificent Seven — except these Seven Princesses held beguiling smiles and lithe figures, not guns and lassoes. Today, three years later, things aren’t looking so magnificent anymore. Most recently, a third Princess is continuing the trend of saying adios to the guild. So before and if it becomes an exodus, we’re taking a look back at these still-young lasses whose association with this celebrity sorority has been an integral part of their identity. Otherwise, what’s the point of this tribute piece?
3) Jesseca Liu
The low-key princess who recently decided to relinquish her tiara. She confirmed that she is quitting MediaCorp to wholly focus on her businesses in Langkawi, Malaysia. The Langkawian ex-beauty queen’s decision to not extend her contract did not come about as a big surprise to many. True, she’s had a more than bumpy start when she first joined in 2004, and finally had a major career boost playing a Vietnamese bride, Ruan Mianmian, in 2005’s Portrait of Home. She won a Most Popular Newcomer award in the 2005 Star Awards for her role and has bagged the Top Ten Most Popular Female Actresses award thrice in a row (2006, 2007 & 2009). Despite subsequent meaty lead roles in Rhapsody in Blue, Kinship I and II, and Rhythm of Life, the lanky beauty’s star began to dip noticeably in the last year when she was only seen in two local productions, The Dream Catchers and Baby Bonus.
Will she be back?: Quite possibly. Setting aside her business plans, we say this definitely won’t be the last we’ll see of this svelte lady. She herself said so. Just offer her a good script and she’ll be back before you even know it.
