The Silver Tribute Charity Night raises over $2.7 million

June 6, 2011

For more than 8,000 elderly and their caregivers from eight voluntary welfare organisations (VWOs), it was a night of nostalgia with timeless Chinese music at yesterday’s The Silver Tribute Charity Night, the first television fund-raising show solely for the needy elderly.

Organised by SMRT, the show featured evergreen Chinese songs belted out by veteran artistes from Taiwan and China, such as Lin Hui Ping, Lin Shu Rong, Luo Shi Feng, Wan Fang, and Chen Mei Feng. Together with our local artistes, everyone took to the stage to entertain and call for donations.

The opening act saw local songstress Olivia Ong teaming up with local actress Jesseca Liu to perform the show’s theme song. It also featured Jesseca doing a five-minute live sketch of one of the elderly folks.

“I was shivering while drawing!” Jesseca told xinmsn. “There’s no crowd during rehearsals so I was very calm, but now with everyone looking at me for the first time, I was really nervous.”
